The Here and Now is a book about time travel, about rules, about one boy, and about one extraordinary girl willing to take a risk.

Prenna knows the rules for time travellers. Rules that mean she can’t tell anyone who she really is, or about the plague that’s coming. She can’t even date Ethan, the cute guy at school. The people who led her community back to 2014 will kill any member who doesn’t obey. Even though Prenna hates it, she keeps her mouth shut and ignores how she feels every time she looks at Ethan. Then, one day, a mysterious man tells her everything can change – but only if she acts fast and takes some risks.

Ann Brashares‘ The Here and Now is full of surprising twists and turns that will keep you turning the pages. She builds a menacing atmosphere making you feel Prenna’s fear as danger closes in. As the story unfolds Prenna and Ethan’s relationship grows, weaving a perfect tale of romance and adventure.

Choice Quote: “It’s wrong, I know, but I play out this dance with him, exquisite and slow. I play it out in my head, because that is the only place it will ever happen.”
