Eoin Colfer Talks About Science vs. Magic
Eoin Colfer – the author of the critically acclaimed and beloved Artemis Fowl series – talks about reading in his youth, the relationship between science and magic and giving fairy tales a new spin.
“My idea was basically that magic can be explained scientifically,” Eoin Colfer tells Author in an interview. “It’s just like any of the other mysteries that humans have explained away over the centuries: why does the Sun go across the sky? Is thunder a message from the gods? Magic is another thing we can explain away.”
Eoin Colfer is the author behind the wonderful and beloved Artemis Fowl books – a series which concluded last summer with The Last Guardian. In this interview with Author Magazine, Colfer spends some time discussing his early childhood years, when reading wasn’t considered a particularly cool thing to do. He also talks about bringing something original to the world of fairy tales: science, and how science is a lot like magic.
But there’s a whole lot more in the interview to discover, so make sure you give it a watch! And don’t forget: all eight Artemis Fowl novels are available right now, so get out there to your local library or bookstore and start reading.
