Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Read By J.K. Rowling

Hear the Deathly Hallows read aloud by J.K. Rowling

Check out this amazing video in which J.K. Rowling reads the full first chapter of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows for the first time ever!

On July 21st, 2007 – the same night the book was released – author J.K. Rowling read the first chapter of the final book in her blockbuster franchise aloud to a packed house at the National History Museum in London.

The audience counts down as the seconds tick away until midnight.  And then, Rowling begins reading the last book in the Harry Potter series.

In Chapter 1, The Dark Lord Ascending, Severus Snape meets his old pal, Yaxley outside of Malfoy Manor. They head inside into a darkened drawing room where a woman rotates in the air above a long table.  Seated around the table, none of the Death Eaters are looking at the woman, save Draco.

Who is seated at the head of the table?  Lord Voldemort himself.  It is to He Who Must Be Named that Snape brings his news: he knows exactly when the Order of the Pheonix plan to move Harry Potter.

It takes nearly 20 minutes for Rowling to read the whole chapter.  The audience is rapt throughout, as you will be!

It’s great to hear the words read by the author herself.  It really makes you want to read the whole book all over again… or maybe the whole series!

Here’s a little quiz.  How many chapters are there in the Deathly Hallows?
