Markus Zusak Reads From “The Book Thief”
The author of the award-winning and bestselling novel The Book Thief makes a rare appearance, where he tells stories and reads an excerpt from the book!
Markus Zusak’s The Book Thief has gotten a lot of press in the past. Released in 2006, the book has spent a reported 230 weeks on the New York Times bestsellers list (wow!) and has been awarded a dozen different prizes, including the Bulletin Blue Ribbon. That’s a whole lot of recognition for one book to get!
In a rare appearance, this video shows Zusak in full-on storytelling mode. In the first half, the author tells his audience a whole range of stories about the book and how it came about. Then, in the second half of the video, Zusak takes out a copy of The Book Thief and agrees to read a short excerpt! If you’ve read the novel before and wondered what the characters sound like through the voice of the man who dreamed them up, here’s the perfect chance for you to find out.
And if you haven’t read the book yet, this is probably the best possible introduction to it that you could have, so give it a watch and then check out the book!
