Susin Nielsen: Advice for Young Authors

We asked Susin Nielsen, author of Word Nerd, George Clooney Will You Please Marry My Mother and The Reluctant Journal of Henry K. Larsen,  for some writing advice.  This time, she answered.

Susin, what’s your best writing advice for young authors?

This will sound really simplistic, but I have two words: Write. Read. Write and write and write, because that’s the only way you’ll slowly start to discover your true voice. And read, because you can’t be a good writer if you don’t also read a lot of books!

Ask an Author is a regular feature on O’Deary Library.  If you have a question for an author, leave it in the comments below.  We’ll try to find the author and get an answer for you.
