For three days in May, readers, authors, parents, educators and publishers participated in a viral campaign on Twitter called #WeNeedDiverseBooks. Thousands of people of all cultures, colours, abilities, sexual orientations, religions, and socioeconomic backgrounds shared stories about their communities, and why it’s important to see themselves, and others, in the books they read.
