Matthew Quick Reads From The Silver Linings Playbook
Matthew Quick reads an excerpt from The Silver Linings Playbook, his debut novel.
By now, you’ve probably all heard about Silver Linings Playbook. You know – that Oscar-winning movie that everybody was talking about a few months ago? The one starring the awesome Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper!
Well, what some of you may not know is that the movie was actually based on a book: The Silver Linings Playbook. The novel was written by Matthew Quick, and it was his very first, debut book. There’s some pretty distinct differences between the two versions of the story, so don’t think that just by watching the movie you already know the whole tale!
In this cool video, Quick reads a lengthy excerpt from the book, a chapter called “Tiffany’s Head Floating Over the Waves”. It’s all in celebration of his shortlisting for the PEN/Hemingway Award, a very prestigious writing award. Not too shabby for an author’s first book, am I right?
Take a listen to Quick’s reading, pick up the book and watch the movie. They’re all great choices for experiencing this funny, moving story in different ways. Make sure you check out all of them to see how they differ from one another!
